Aplastic anaemia is a rare acquired disorder in which there is a failure of the bone marrow to produce sufficient blood cells for the circulation (acquired means that the condition is neither present at birth nor inherited but has developed during the patient’s life). There are also inherited forms of the disease, but they are not dealt with in this section of the website.
