*Bone marrow or stem cell transplants are necessary when the bone marrow is so diseased or damaged that it can no longer function normally. Sometimes the damage to the bone marrow is a result of treatment for leukaemia or a related cancer of the blood. In order to destroy all of the leukaemia cells it may be necessary to use treatment so strong that it completely destroys the bone marrow

Cord blood stem cell harvesting and storage

We receive enquiries from time-to-time from parents-to-be who have heard of cord blood stem cell harvesting and are unsure whether they should consider commercial storage of their babies stem cells or wish to know if they can donate them to a cord blood bank. We have put together some information for anyone in this situation.
